Studio Update: Week of 10/6- 10/12
This was a busy week in the studio. Though, I guess I should stop saying that, because as it stands, every week is a busy week in the studio. I started this week by trimming up the last of the plates I had set aside to dry. Once the plates were trimmed I set aside a good number of them for a different project and started working on decorating my big sculpture with it's design. This is one of my favorite stages of making as it is the stage where you can see the most immediate results. The instant dopamine of seeing a work finally coming together is something that I really needed! I usually cover my color blocked pieces with a wax resist and then I'll inlay new color into the carved lines. This is a very satisfying process and I was really grateful for it this week! On Saturday, I went out to the river with my studio-mates Grace and Emma. We dug up about 5 gallons of river clay for Grace to use in her practice and I collected a bunch of leaves for us to use during our make-a-thon the following week. It was a really fun day! We ended it with some Bluedog sandwiches in the park and I only referenced animal crossing 3 or 4 times. To be fair we were going to the lake to dig with a shovel and a bucket, if that doesn't scream animal crossing I don't know what does!!!! Also my dog is back with me! He has enjoyed his week of being lazy and going on walks.
